Democrat Congressman Encourages Leftists To Embrace Second Amendment

Democrats are allegedly all about gun control. But there is a time when owning a firearm can be beneficial. So, when are guns not a threat? According to Representative Tom Suozzi of New York, when they are used to “resist” President Donald Trump.

Ask just about any liberal politician about the Second Amendment and you’ll most certainly hear words like “antiquated” or “unnecessary.” They label gun owners as dangerous and the National Rifle Association as evil.

That is until Democrats like Suozzi can find a good reason not to oppose gun rights. Purposes like an armed insurrection against the President of the United States. And that just so happens to be what the U.S. representative from Long Island called for last week.

Speaking to constituents at a town hall, Suozzi suggested that people who oppose Trump should embrace the Second Amendment. In a video of the Huntington event from March 12, he clearly calls for violent opposition.

“It’s really a matter of putting public pressure on the president,” Suozzi said. “This is where the Second Amendment comes in, quite frankly, because you know, what if the president was to ignore the courts? What would you do? What would we do?”

After the video went public, Suozzi’s political adviser Kim Devlin tried to do damage control saying the congressman was “not advocating for an armed insurrection.” However, the campaign later forwarded a quote from Thomas Jefferson that contradicted Devlin’s statement:

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”

Republicans Respond

Suffice it to say, Republicans didn’t find the thinly veiled threats amusing. Chris Martin, the spokesman for the National Republican Campaign Committee, called the video “incredibly disturbing.”

“It’s surreal to watch a sitting member of Congress suggest that his constituents should take up arms against the president of the United States,” said Martin.

Can you imagine the outrage if a conservative congressman made these statements when Obama was president? Democrats would’ve burned the Constitution.

Hopefully, the Secret Service received a copy of the video.
