But none may have done Bond better and with more class than Sir Roger Moore. The British actor provided tongue-and-cheek humor to the Bond character in seven different films, which pretty much defined his acting career.

But even the great actors must go. Sadly, his family announced on Twitter that he had died in Switzerland from cancer at the age of 89.

“With the heaviest of hearts,” the tweet said, “we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated.”

Moore was the oldest Bond ever hired for the string of movies, beginning the character at age 46. (The next oldest actor to play bond was Sean Connery at age 33). He also had the longest-running role as Bond, starting with “Live and Let Die” in 1973 and finishing with “A View to a Kill” in 1985.

Moore, however, stayed humble about his acting and how he ranked among the other bonds.

“My acting range has always been something between the two extremes of ‘raises left eyebrow’ and ‘raises right eyebrow,’” he said.

He also had some words about his death. He didn’t think of himself in an arrogant way. He just wanted to live a simple life and go simply.

“I’ve not planned my funeral,” he said. “I’m not the Queen. A procession through the streets of Stockwell would be nice, I suppose. But when I go, I’d just like everyone to say: ‘He lived longer than anyone I knew.’”
