Hollywood has been trying to make a Queen movie for years but the various writers could never deliver anything that the remaining band members approved. The closest project involved Sacha Baron Cohen (Bruno, Borat) but it also fell apart. Now, director Bryan Singer and actor Rami Malek are bringing the story to life.
Bryan Singer made a name for himself with The Usual Suspects back in 1995. Since then, Singer was one of the first to really bring Marvel to the big screen. He directed X-Men and then X-Men 2 in the early 2000s. Since then, he’s also made the Tom Cruise film Valkyrie and X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse (with more mutants on the way).
As for the star of the film, Rami Malek will play Freddie Mercury. Malek is best known for his role in the cult series, Mr. Robot. But, he’s also known for small roles in 24, The Master, Old Boy, and Papillon. Outside of television, this is definitely the largest movie that Malek has ever led to the big screen.
