Stephen Hawking has had a large impact on The Big Bang Theory characters, and also the cast. The acclaimed scientist has appeared on the show quite a few times. Simon Helberg told Conan what it was really like to meet such an inspiring person.
Many fans were overjoyed when they first saw Stephen Hawking on TBBT. The famous scientist, who has overcome tremendous obstacles and added so much to the field, appeared on the show in Season 5. His “character” comes to Cal Tech, and Howard is tasked with being a part of his “pit crew”- the group of men making sure his wheelchair works properly throughout the trip.
Simon Helberg told Conan what meeting Stephen Hawking was like. Simon talked about how Stephen Hawking had been a dream guest star for the show. He had been mentioned in the Pilot episode and a few other times. Simon’s character Howard had even done impressions of the scientist at one point.
Simon said, “He wanted to watch a rehearsal or a run through, and they asked if that was okay with us for this genius to come down. We, of course, said yes and it was just so surreal.” Simon recalled Hawking entering like something out of a

Awkward Impressions

Simon ended up having to do an impression of Stephen Hawking in front of Hawking, right after shaking his hand and meeting him. Simons said he did the impression, stood up and saluted Hawking, and saw a smile come across the scientist’s face. Simon said, “it was one of the greatest things.” Seems like everything worked out great in the end.
