Fans have long awaited this news. We’ve been pretty sure, but now we can finally be certain. The Big Bang Theory has been renewed for two more seasons. That means that TBBT will run for at least 12 seasons- well past the other records of classic sitcoms such as Friends.

Finally, we know things are official. There have been so many rumors circulating, fans weren’t sure what to believe. CNN has reported that the show will extend through season 12. However, which of the rumors surrounding the renewal are true?

Pay cuts

We still aren’t sure if the rumor is true that cast members will be taking a pay cut. Many news sources have reported that the five original stars, Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar, all agreed to a $100,000 pay cut to ensure that Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch would receive a pay increase. It is said that Mayim and Melissa were holding up negotiations. This makes sense- the two female stars were being paid less than 50% of their co-stars while doing the same amount of work.

Since 2007 this show has been a hit. That’s ten whole years of nerdy humor and geek culture becoming cool. Fans just weren’t ready to give this group of characters up. The show has been number one in viewership since 2010 with no signs of decline anytime soon.

This Might Be It

Fans and reporters are speculating that this two-season renewal marks a definitive end of the series. Reasoning that it’s unlikely that the cast will want to continue after twelve seasons, and this gives CBS an exact deadline to replace their best hit show.

It will be hard to top the success that Big Bang has received. The Sheldon spin-off will certainly try. CBS has ordered a show surrounding the younger years of Sheldon Cooper’s life, and they’ve even cast both young Sheldon and Mary Cooper.

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief– The Big Bang Theory renewal gives us two more years of belly laughs and nerdy humor.
