Phil Robertson just did the one thing most celebrities know to avoid. He insulted the Bey-Hive. Heaven help him when Beyonce’s fans start to come for him.
Phil Robertson On Beyonce
Phil Robertson isn’t the most modern of celebrities. He’s probably not someone we would expect to be into pop-culture, or the top 40 hit, despite the fact that he is a character of pop-culture.
No, we’d guess Phil likes to listen to classic country music, or perhaps even no music at all. However, the one thing we would never guess would be how Phil reacted to Beyonce’s music. His response to her song Blow, in particular, was a bit extreme.
Someone at the Independent Journal Review thought it would be a great idea to video Phil as he listened to Beyonce’s songs. Sounds innocent enough. However, things got serious pretty quickly. When the Journal played the song Blow, Robertson said, “And you wonder why 110 million of us have a sexually transmitted disease at any given time?”
That’s a pretty serious accusation.
Phil implied that listening to Beyonce’s music caused sexual promiscuity, and in turn sexually transmitted diseases. He continued, “So according to God, the Center for Disease Control, and me, don’t listen to that chick. She will lead you down a path into the microbe world. She’ll take you down a path you don’t want to go down.”
If we were Phil Robertson we would be worried. Beyonce’s fans, self-proclaimed the “Bey-hive” do NOT like when their queen is insulted. They often go crazy on social media, attacking anyone who says anything negative about Beyonce.
We’d also like to point out that Phil’s opinion is drastically different from most of his family’s. We imagine this interview going very differently with Si Robertson. Uncle Si often embraces pop-culture, or at the very least play along with his ignorance of it. He’s even made references to Beyonce’s famous songs on Duck Dynasty.
We seriously can’t believe Phil Robertson would equate Beyonce’s songs to a sexually transmitted disease…even for him this comment is out there.
