The fans over at Cracked believe that the entire Series is all about the end of the world. They think the guys are going to bring about the end of the world, and equate them to modern day (and lazy versions of) Einstein and Tesla. It’s a bleak view; we certainly don’t hope the final episode of TBBT literally ends with a bang. The next theory is a bit more comical…
Sheldon Cooper Is Secretly Gay

This one was pretty much disproved the second Amy showed up, but some fans still hold on to the idea that Sheldon, like his portraying actor Jim Parsons, is gay. Perhaps this theory came from Sheldon’s hesitation to touch the opposite sex. It could also stem from his lack of interest in Penny. When the men first meet Penny they are all, except for Sheldon, smitten with her. This theory definitely doesn’t stand up when you consider all of Sheldon and Amy’s moments, but it is an interesting idea. However, not all characters have proven their fan’s theories false…
Penny and Leonard Are Mentally Ill

One fan on Reddit believes that Penny and Leonard are not truly in love, but are attracted to each other because of mental illness. They site Penny’s problems with alcohol and low self-esteem and match them to Leonard’s cold mother. The fan wrote, “The reason that Leonard loves Penny isn’t because she’s pretty, it’s because they’re compatible. They both are self-defeating and are trying to fill voids in their lives without ever facing the problem.” Fascinating stuff. Penny and Leonard aren’t the only ones the fans think are off their rocker…
It’s All In Sheldon’s Mind

One Reddit user wrote, “The entirety of the show and the setting takes place in Sheldon’s head, Sheldon is actually in a mental asylum. Sheldon imagines a better life where he is surrounded by friends who love what he loves.” TheTheoryGuys went on to state that Sheldon had murdered his father and girlfriend when his mother wouldn’t let him become a physicist and that the show is his coping mechanism.

Raj is Sheldon’s Doctor

TheTheoryGuys also believes that Raj is a doctor at the asylum and that he treats both Sheldon and a girl named Penny. Raj wanted to be an astrophysicist but his parents forced him into medicine. This has caused him to be deeply depressed. It’s a pretty deep and detailed theory, that leaves us a little mind blown. The craziest fan theory has got to be this next one, though…
Penny Wasn’t Supposed To Be The Lead

One Reddit user speculated that the producers of TBBT originally planned for Penny to be the first of many hot girls to move in across from Sheldon and Leonard. However, when the show began to grow in popularity they decided to develop the character. madhi19 wrote, “I guarantee the initial plan was probably to have a series of hot women move into that apartment. A la Two And A Half Men.” It’s an interesting idea, that would have made for a completely different series.
