Having a world class striker is definitely key for a team like Barcelona. Yes Barca has Messi, but they do need someone deadly upfront to turn Messi’s vision and assists into goals.

That’s where Suarez enters the scene. The best striker in the world became top scorer in La Liga last season. But that’s not all, he was also a top scorer in the Premier League when he played for Liverpool.

When it comes to Suarez, numbers speak more than words.

He’s been brilliant so far, and he’s not showing any signs of slowing down. He is surrounded by top players in Barcelona, and they do help him score almost every game.

But he was a goal machine in Liverpool as well.

Without Messi, Neymar and Iniesta, Suarez was still tearing apart defenses and scoring amazing goals. Just like Sir Alex Ferguson said; “great players can play in any generation.”

Ferguson was referring to Messi when he talked about great players, but Suarez can fit into the category too. He was dominated in the Premier League, and he is now dominated in the La Liga

Is Suarez the best striker in the world?

The only two players that can compete with Suarez are Aguero and Lewandowski. They’re both world class strikers, and they both score a lot of goals.

The truth is, you won’t be wrong if you pick Lewandowski or Aguero as the world number one striker.

Lewandowski is a clinical finisher, and he’s great with headers. Aguero is a skilful number 9, and he can easily dribble defenders in 1-on-1 situations.

And Suarez is all of the above.

Let’s start with the dribbling skills:

This is just an example of how Suarez can handle defenders like David Luiz. Both Aguero and Suarez are fast strikers, and capable of beating defenders. But Suarez has a more direct approach, when it comes to dribbling.

As you can notice, he’s always on the move and this gives no space and time to defenders to react. Lewandowski however, is not fast enough to score a solo counter attack on his own.

His specialty is turning lousy crosses into goals.

None of the goals were scored from an easy position, especially the third goal. He had to find a space between two defenders to turn that cross into a goal.

But it’s not like Suarez isn’t capable of scoring goals from difficult positions.

He had to dribble past Ramos to handle the cross from Alves. But he did it, and he brought Barcelona 3 points and a win against their biggest rival.

“I had the pleasure of working with him for two years and he was incredible and as a footballer, he is the best in the world.

“The biggest compliment you can give Luis is that he came to an already world-class team and he made them even better.” – Brendan Rodgers.

Brendan Rodgers is absolutely right when it comes to Suarez, because he did made Barcelona even better.
