Laurie Metcalf received her first Tony Award on Sunday night for her work in A Doll’s House: Part 2.

The actress has been nominated for a Tony award 4 times, and finally got to bring one home in 2017. On screen son, Jim Parsons sent his well-wishes to the actress on social media.

Jim Parsons was over the moon excited for his onscreen mother, Laurie Metcalf, as she won her first Tony Award Sunday night at Radio City Music Hall. The actor wrote on Instagram, “Hell yes! Congrats to my tv mom on her well deserved [Tony Award]! I love u, Laurie Metcalf!”

The pair has been playing mother and son on screen for over ten years now. Laurie’s work on The Big Bang Theory as Mary Cooper earned her a nomination for the 2016 Emmy Award for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a comedy series.”

On Sunday Laurie Metcalf accepted the Tony Award for “Best aActressin a Play” for her part in A Doll’s House Part 2. The actress has appeared on Broadway numerous times in Brighton Beach Memoirs, Misery, November, and The Other Place. Other notable actresses nominated for the award for best actress in a play included Cate Blanchett, Laura Linney, Sally Field, and Jennifer Ehle.

Laurie Metcalf’s Legacy

Laurie Metcalf’s legacy as Mary Cooper will live on in the new TBBT spin-off series Young Sheldon. Her daughter, Zoe Cooper, will be portraying a younger version of Mary Cooper as she raises young Sheldon Cooper in Texas. The show is set to premiere in September of this year, and sources say, Zoe consulted her mom for ideas about the character.

Upon winning her first Tony award Laurie said, “I have to thank my daughter…and my son…for putting up with me being gone for long stretches of time so I can do what I love to do most, which is working in the theater.”
