They may be vague, but these new synopses released by AMC should give Walking Dead fans plenty to think about in the weeks to come.

Like it or love it, the Walking Dead season premiere this year certainly did set a precedent. Negan’s shocking murders of both Glenn and Abraham have made every subsequent episode, absolutely nerve-wracking. Even learning episode titles and synopses for future episodes is enough to induce panic.

AMC likes to be cryptic with their episode descriptions. On the one hand, it makes sense to avoid spoilers. On the other hand, it can drive you nuts trying to decipher what it all means. It’s not a matter of trying to figure out what Negan will do next. It’s a matter of figuring out what he wouldn’t do.

On that note, AMC has now released the titles and synopses for the next three episodes. Piecing together the clues is like like solving a Rubik’s cube, but we’ll see what we can do:

Swear

Episode 6 is titled “Swear.” The rumor mill says this is the episode that will catch us up with Tara and Heath. The two were last seen heading off on a supply run last season. Here’s the official synopsis:

Someone stumbles upon a brand new society, and this society is unlike anything seen before.

That certainly could mean Tara and Heath. Then again, it also sounds exactly like episode two with Morgan, Carol, and The Kingdom. Actually, it’s so vague it could even be the plot of The Wizard of Oz for all we know.

Sing Me A Song

The following week is episode 7, titled “Sing Me A Song.” For fans of The Walking Dead comic book, this one might be easy to solve. Here’s the synopsis:

A deeper look at the Sanctuary and the world of the Saviors; members of Alexandria look for supplies.

Again, that’s maddeningly vague. However, the title and the Sanctuary setting hold a few clues. In the comic book, Carl sneaks into a truck and rides with the Saviors back to their home. He confronts Negan, who is amused by him. Negan forces Carl to remove his eyepatch and sing a song for him. It’s the beginning of a complicated relationship between the two that stretches for years.

Hearts Still Beating

Episode 8 is titled “Hearts Still Beating.” The title doesn’t tell us much, but there may be a few clues in the synopsis:

Negan’s unwelcome visit to Alexandria continues as other members scavenge for supplies; things quickly spin out of control.

There’s not much to glean there except that Negan will be returning to Alexandria again already. Oh, and that things will spin out of control (don’t they always, though?).

Once again, fans of the comic book may have a guess at what this is about. (Spoilers ahead!) In the book, Negan comes to Alexandria while Rick is away at the Hilltop. That alone makes for a tense situation, but Spencer decides to take advantage. He tells Negan that Rick is a weak leader, advocating to take his place. Negan is not impressed with Spencer’s cowardice, though, and guts him on the spot. (End spoilers.)

Unfortunately, there’s only one way we’ll know if these guesses are right: by waiting and watching.
