With the 2017-2018 football season set to begin in a few weeks, former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is still not signed. However, NFL sources have revealed that Kaepernick has turned down at least one contract to play, leaving many to wonder exactly what game he is trying to play–football or identity politics?

Despite the claims of social justice warriors, Kaepernick has indeed been offered a rather lucrative contract for a seventh-year player with not-so impressive stats. According to an NFL source, who spoke with The Daily Caller, he turned down a deal to play for $900,000, because he didn’t want “backup money.”

During the 2017 off season, Kaepernick parted ways with XAM Sports, who had managed his career since he entered the league in 2011. Many believe his girlfriend, radio host Nessa Diab, is the driving force behind the changes. Diab sparked controversy earlier this month after she posted a tweet comparing Baltimore Ravens owner, Steve Bisciotti, to a slave owner.

Bisciotti allegedly was interested in signing Kaepernick to backup Joe Flacco. Afterward, former Ravens player, Ray Lewis, posted a video telling Kaepernick to “focus on football, not activism.” But after Diab’s tweet, negotiations stalled. Still, others feel the quarterback has a more sinister agenda. “He views himself as a race messiah, said the NFL source. “Colin thinks he’s fighting a much higher battle than he is.”

Sports sociologist and civil rights activist, Dr. Harry Edwards, has become close friends with Kaepernick and believes he will be signed. “I don’t think there’s any question that there are some owners who wouldn’t have him in the league, much less on their team,” said Edwards. “But I fully expect one [team to sign him], because it’s in the best interest of the league to have him on a team.”

We’re guessing that happy fans, and standing for the national anthem, are in the best interest of the league. What do you think?
