Just when we thought President Trump was going to be allowed to start focusing on real problems, the Democrats upset the balance again. Having pushed their delusional Russia narrative for seven months, without any conclusive evidence, should make their motives clear to everyone. However, it hasn’t and it looks like things are about to get worse.

Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, and his dream team of liberal lawyers have convened a new grand jury to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election. Democrats have suggested that not only did Russian influence cost Hillary Clinton the election, but that President Trump and his associates colluded with the Kremlin to ensure his victory.

Both Russian officials and the president have denied the allegations repeatedly. President Trump has on many occasions referred to Mueller’s investigation as a political “witch hunt.” Joshua Stueve, spokesman for Mueller, declined to comment on the grand jury. Special counsel to the president, Ty Cobb, was surprised by the news, but said they fully intend to cooperate with the investigation.

“Grand jury matters are typically secret,” Mr. Cobb said. “The White House favors anything that accelerates the conclusion of his work fairly.…The White House is committed to fully cooperating with Mr. Mueller.” Another grand jury, in Alexandria, VA has been working for months as part of the criminal investigation into Retired General Michael Flynn.

That probe, according to the Wall Street Journal, has since been taken over by Mr. Mueller’s team and focuses on Mr. Flynn’s work in the private sector on behalf of foreign interests. Interestingly, several months ago new records revealed that the investigation into Flynn may have been nothing more than political retribution by Andrew McCabe.

Stephen Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas, believes the new grand jury is a sign of more trouble for President Trump. “This is yet a further sign that there is a long-term, large-scale series of prosecutions being contemplated and being pursued by the special counsel,” said Vladeck. “If there was already a grand jury in Alexandria looking at Flynn, there would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the same guy. This suggests that the investigation is bigger and wider than Flynn, perhaps substantially so.”
