Carol And Merle Surprise Fans On Conan

Conan O’Brien has been known to travel from time-to-time for his show, which includes visiting New York, Canada, and even Atlanta, where The Walking Dead is filmed.

In this rare skit, a few surprise guests show up to excite the audience.

During the middle of Conan’s monolog, where he’s talking about the kinds of shows shot in Georgia, Merle (Michael Rooker) and Carol (Melissa McBride) show up in their walker-fighting attire and the crowd goes wild.

“I didn’t even see you up there. We mean you no trouble, but it’s crawling with walkers out there,” said Merle.

In the short skit, Conan tries to continue his monolog as planned, but whenever the camera pans back to the host, Merle or Carol accidentally shoot someone, like his cameraman and a stunt double.

“Sure, you can hide from zombies here if you want…” said Conan. In proper The Walking Dead language, Merle doesn’t acknowledge the phrase, but instead said, “If by zombies, you mean walkers, thanks buddy…”

Robert Kirkman’s universe doesn’t ever say the word “Zombie.”

Why They Never Say “Zombie” On The Walking Dead

The Wrap explains why Kirkman doesn’t use this word in his series:

“One of the things about this world is that people don’t know how to shoot people in the head at first, and they’re not familiar with zombies, per se,” Kirkman said on “Talking Dead.” “This isn’t a world the (George) Romero movies exist, for instance … because we don’t want to portray it that way, we felt like having them be saying ‘zombie’ all the time would harken back to all of the zombie films which we, in the real world, know about.”

“So by calling them something different, we’re kind of giving a nod to … these people don’t understand the situation. They’ve never seen this in pop culture, this is a completely new thing for them.”
