Co-executive producer Denise Hugh says that the 100th episode of The Walking Dead (Season 8 Premiere) will be epic. The show started filming a few weeks ago and the 100th episode celebration has cast, crew, and fans more excited than ever.

Andrew Lincoln actually said he was “genuinely more excited about this new episode and the following fifteen than [he’s] ever been in [his] life.” Showrunner Scott Gimple also described the next episode as ”kinetic” and “breakneck.”

Now that they’re actually filming, Denise Huth reveals a little more.

“Back when we started, we never imagined we’d make it to 100 episodes.],” she told Entertainment Weekly. “It seemed like such a far-off goal, it was hard to even contemplate at that time — we just wanted a second season.”

“It’s a huge compliment, the fact that we’ve been able to grow the story and grow the show and very year it gets bigger, and bigger, and bigger. This year, that’s certainly the case as well. And add on top of it that our season premiere for Season 8 happens to be the 100th episode, it makes it a really exciting way to come back.”

Huth said everyone is “super-pumped” about the return.

Back in Season 6, the creators and producers started to do the math and they realized that the Season 8 premiere would actually be the 100th episode. Huth said showrunner Scott Gimple wrote the premiere, but it’s still just “natural.”

She also said the cast is so much more excited this year when compared to last year. Rick Grimes is no longer between a rock and a barbed wire bat, so there’s much more joy on set all around.

She concluded, “It’s a ton of action. It’s super exciting. I think it will be really, really satisfying. As a fan of the show — and I am a fan of the show — when I read it, it was like “Awww, I can’t wait! It’s going to be great!” It’s worth the worth the wait to get to this moment.”

The Walking Dead returns in October on AMC.
