Eugene And Dwight Can’t Be Trusted

Let’s ignore the fact that Eugene was eating a pickle while speaking to Dwight (which is an homage to Eugene biting Dwight’s crotch), and look at these two men as they enter Season 8 of The Walking Dead.

Eugene has overwhelming jumped into the Savior’s pool, while Dwight has risked his life to speak with Rick and Daryl. Both men seem to want what is best for the future, but they’re going at it in two very different ways.

Can either of these men really be trusted?

Dwight seems to be honest when speaking with Rick and the gang. He didn’t harm Rosita and there’s no evidence that he’s working with Negan in any sort of backstabbing sort of way.

His story also seems to check out. With his wife gone, there’s really no reason for him to keep playing Negan’s game. Like Daryl and almost everyone else who considers Negan a nemesis, he’s willing to die for the cause.

It’s unclear, however, if Daryl will ever actually trust Dwight.

Eugene’s Allegiance To Negan

Then there’s Eugene. It seems like Eugene is simply doing what he’s thinks is best for his own survival. He quickly jumped on the Negan train, but also saved Negan when Negan’s various sister-wives wanted to poison him.

At the end of the finale, however, it was clear that Negan’s patience had grown thin with Eugene. Someone did something to help Sasha kill herself and Negan believes it to be Eugene, which is correct.

From Eugene’s perspective, everything was okay until Sasha showed up. Now, because he felt sorry for her, Negan no longer trusts him. In addition, he watched Rosita try to kill him in front of everyone with dynamite.

It’s currently unclear where Eugene’s allegiance lies, but it’s likely going to be wherever he feels the most safe.

Would you ever trust Dwight?
