The Big Bang Theory cast lost a great guest-star, and phenomenal friend on Pi day last week. Stephen Hawking passed away early in the morning on March 14th. Mayim Bialik, and others mourned and honored him with social media posts.
Stephen Hawking Passes Away
Stephen Hawking was the greatest physicist of our time. He passed away at age 76 last week, on what some call “Pi day.” Many fans and scientists found this day of death to be ironic. March 14, 3/14 is often known as Pi day for it’s date’s similarity to those of pi.
Hawking suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It would have been easy for Hawking to hang up his scientific goals, but he never let the diagnosis stop him. However, thanks to modern technology, Stephen was able to communicate til his last day.
A professor at the City University of New York, Michio Kaku, explained, “Not since Albert Einstein has a scientist so captured the public imagination and endeared himself to tens of millions of people around the world.” Hawking wrote the book A Brief History of Time: From The Big Bang To Black Holes. He made large scientific discoveries about black holes, and their explosions. He was a hero to many.
Big Bang Theory Cast Responds
As we near Pi day (3.14) I join the global community in mourning the loss of the greatest physicist of our era. #StephenHawking is free from the physical constraints of this earthly condition we all exist in and he is soaring above us now marveling at it all. Thank you Dr. Hawking for enlightening us and blessing us with your wisdom and courage.
That includes Mayim Bialik, who honored the physicist with a post on social media. She said, “As we near Pi day (3.14) I join the global community in mourning the loss of the greatest physicist of our era. #StephenHawking is free from the physical constraints of this earthly condition we all exist in and he is soaring above us now marveling at it all. Thank you Dr. Hawking for enlightening us and blessing us with your wisdom and courage.”
Jim Parsons posted the same photo in black and white, simply writing, “Thank you, Stephen Hawking.”
Kaley Cuoco had more to say, adding, “It was truly such an honor getting to work with the incredible Stephen Hawking.. He made us laugh and we made him laugh. His life and career workings have been many a subject matter on @thebigbangtheory__ and we are all better for it. You will be missed but the world is grateful for the knowledge and courage you leave in your path. Thank you for being an inspiration to everyone.”
We are certainly thankful for the time that Stephen Hawking was on this Earth, and we’re grateful we got to know him not only as a scientist but as a fantastic guest star with the Big Bang Theory cast.
