Their Toughest Enemies Yet

When The Walking Dead returns, Rick and the gang are going to face their toughest enemy yet. Behind the scenes, however, it’s possible that cable’s top show could have some major issues behind the scenes.

Creator Robert Kirkman has joined executive producers Glen Mazzara, David Alpert, and Gale Anne Hurd in a lawsuit against AMC that could mean a billion dollar loss for the cable network.

These individuals are saying that AMC violated contracts with their shows, Talking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.

Kirkman Signs With Amazon

Cleveland writes:

“For his part, Kirkman recently parted ways with AMC, signing a new production deal with Amazon Studios. Kirkman’s company Skybound will partner with the streaming service on new projects (“The Walking Dead” franchise still belongs to AMC).”

“The defendant AMC Entities exploited their vertically integrated corporate structure to combine both the production and the exhibition of ‘TWD” which allowed AMC to keep the lion’s share of the series’ enormous profits for itself and not share it with the Plaintiffs, as required by their contracts,’ the lawsuit claims.”

AMC Calls Lawsuits “Opportunistic”

This is actually the second time AMC has been sued over their giant money maker, The Walking Dead. The original showrunner, Frank Darabont, has been in a battle for the past three years with the network.

According to Darabont, the writer of The Shawshank Redemption, the network owes him around $300 million due to a deal with the Creative Artists Agency. AMC dismissed the lawsuit.

AMC officially commented that both lawsuits were merely “opportunistic” in nature and essentially invalid. These lawsuits will also reflect on future deals with creatives like Darabont as well as Robert Kirkman.

Whatever happens next, The Walking Dead is scheduled to return with Season 8 and Robert Kirkman has also just signed a deal with Amazon.

Do you think this could harm The Walking Dead before Season 9?
