Mayim Bialik is a “Super Woman”

On August 15, 2012, a day after the taping of the first episode of The Big Bang Theory’s sixth season, Mayim, who was driving after appearing on “The Soup” was involved in an accident. A car made a sudden left turn at an intersection on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea, and hit her car. As a result, Mayim suffered a serious injury on her right hand. Eyewitnesses reported that there was a lot of blood everywhere. Mayim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Soon, rumors surfaced that she might lose her fingers.

However, Mayim shot down the rumors by posting on her Twitter (with her then husband’s help, they have since divorced) that she will keep her fingers. People Magazine photographed her post-accident, wearing a gauze on her left forearm and a full cast on her right arm.

Mayim is a vegan and is known for preferring natural remedies to certain things. She stated in an interview with Access Hollywood that she used “natural birth techniques” in order to combat the pain during recovery. Always the humorist even in the darkest situations, Bialik goes on to explain that during the accident her neuroscientist brain “turned on” and she knew she had to get out of the car because she starting seeing Denzel Washington type action movies with exploding cars in her head. When Bialik managed to get out of the car, her right hand could not be lifted. Her initial thought then was “I’m a mom. This is not happening.”

During her recovery period, Bailik did not miss a day of shooting for the Big Bang Theory. The solution was for crew members to constantly find ways to hide Mayim’s bulky cast. If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what is.

Mayim Bialik has certainly done a lot in her lifetime. Acting at such a young age and finding success early on is no easy feat. What is even more impressive is Bialik’s education and her drive to both act and be a force in the scientific community. But Bialik earned her right as a badass woman by not taking narcotics during her recovery AND when giving birth to two sons. I’d like to see Sheldon do that!

All Bialik does to aid in her pain is deep breathing exercises that women often do while pregnant and she occasionally uses over the counter pain killers. But never the strong stuff.
I don’t think many people can pull off Bialik’s recovery methods AND go work on set the very next day after the accident. I think Mayim Bialik may be super woman in disguise. I have an even higher opinion of her than I already had and I really look forward to seeing her on future episodes of the Big Bang Theory.

Fans should be excited to know that season 10 starts in September of 2016. Watch out for Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler and the rest of the cast as well.
