You probably know who Lin-Manuel Miranda is. (Hello, he’s the writer and original star of Hamilton the musical). You probably also know who Iain Armitage is. But, did you know these two theater celebrities have a special relationship?
Iain Armitage and Lin-Manuel Miranda
Can Iain show you what he's proudest of? This friendship. It is ALWAYS a thrill to see Mr. Lin. When Iain was 6 and first saw @hamiltonmusical in previews at the Public Theatre, he was astonished. After the show, Lin tweeted about seeing Iain, saying he was nervous the critics were already in the house. After the show, Iain said, "I can't believe you WROTE the show, STAR in it and also you have a brand new baby!" Mr. Lin replied simply, "I'm SO tired!!!!" Iain adored him instantly and has always been treated with such incredible kindness by every single person involved with the show. Thank you so very much!
Iain Armitage will be experiencing quite a culture shock this year. The little 9-year-old is playing a young Sheldon Cooper, in the new series Young Sheldon. He’s following in the footsteps of acting great Jim Parsons. Jim’s been giving him acting pointers and helping produce the show.
However, Jim isn’t the only legend Iain has been learning from. He met Lin-Manuel Miranda a few years ago at previews for Hamilton, and the friendship has been strong ever since.
Iain’s mom wrote on his Instagram this week, “Can Iain show you what he is proudest of? Can Iain show you what he’s proudest of? This friendship. It is ALWAYS a thrill to see Mr. Lin. When Iain was 6 and first saw @hamiltonmusical in previews at the Public Theatre, he was astonished.”
Apparently, Lin-Manuel spotted Iain in the crowd, and tweeted at the young star. How would a great like Miranda know who Iain was? Iain has been filming theater critiques for years. The adorable segments are uploaded to his Youtube channel, Iain Loves Theater. Iain has been going to Broadway shows since he was incredibly young, and always has something positive to say.
Lin-Manuel Takes Notice
Most recently Lin-Manuel Miranda has noticed Iain on the front of buses in Manhattan. The Young Sheldon advertisements were recently rolled out to promote the September premiere. Miranda tweeted, “Yo [Iain] you’re all over 175th street! Can’t wait to see you!”
Iain’s mom also recently recounted that Lin-Manuel said Iain is “ours” referring to the theater community, where he got his start. Apparently, it made Iain feel amazing.
Talk about friendship goals- Iain Armitage and Lin-Manuel Miranda might be the best friendship.
