Korie and Sadie Robertson left their mission trip in Somalia just one hour before a deadly truck bomb exploded right by their hotel. The women are lucky to be alive, and both shared their devastation for their new friends on social media.

Korie and Sadie Robertson Beg For Prayers

@legitsadierob and I were asked to help deliver food to 50,000 people in the midst of a severe drought in Somalia along with @bobgoff @michaeldeanmcdonald @lovedoes and @worldfoodprogramme_official so of course we said YES! We spent 3 days there and fell in love. The hope-filled work being done in a difficult place was incredibly inspiring, life-changing. We flew out of Mogadishu yesterday morning and landed in Istanbul to find out that there was a massive truck bomb (not even a mile from our hotel) just after our plane took off that shook the entire city. Heartbroken! Reports say it’s the worst the city has ever experienced. I’m almost home now and still can’t find the words. The death toll continues to rise. It was at 276 the last report I saw. Thinking of our new friends there. The mamas, babies, teenagers…strong, kind, beautiful people. I had a post written before we learned of this tragedy that I’ll save for another day. For now, asking for prayers for the victims, their families, our friends. The country is in mourning. God be with them. #prayformogadishu “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭12:5‬

Korie and Sadie Robertson had been in Somalia just one hour before a deadly truck bomb detonated right nearby their hotel. Korie wrote on Instagram, “We flew out of Mogadishu yesterday morning and landed in Istanbul to find out that there was a massive truck bomb (not even a mile from our hotel) just after our plane took off that shook the entire city.”

At least 300 people have been reported dead after the bombing. Even more are thought to be trapped under the rubble, and hundreds more have been reported injured. This disgusting act of violence took place Saturday, October 14th. Korie added, “Heartbroken! Reports say it’s the worst the city has ever experienced. I’m almost home now and still can’t find the words. The death toll continues to rise.”

Korie and Sadie Robertson were in the area ministering and delivering goods. Korie explained, “[Sadie] and I were asked to help deliver food to 50,000 people in the midst of a severe drought in Somalia along with [others] and @worldfoodprogramme official so of course we said YES! We spent 3 days there and fell in love. The hope-filled work being done in a difficult place was incredibly inspiring, life-changing.”

Sadie’s Sadness

my heart is broken. I have spent the past 4 days in Mogadishu, Somalia. It has been an experience like no other. 4 days of Love • Connection • Friendship • Passion • Hope… 1 hour after our plane took off this morning a massive bomb went off less than a half mile from the hotel I have been staying at and very near to the homes of all of my friends there. The whole city shook and the whole city is shaken. The area at this point is unrecognizable. These new friends of mine are passionate, hopeful, hardworking, beautiful, loving, and human just like you. They have been through more in life than many of us can understand, but stronger then many of us will ever be. Today they were hit again. Hard. Nearly 40 people already found dead. Please pray. my heart is broken.

Sadie Robertson also wrote her own tribute to the victims. She said, “My heart is broken…These new friends of mine are passionate, hopeful, hardworking, beautiful, loving, and human just like you. They have been through more in life than many of us can understand, but stronger then many of us will ever be. Today they were hit again. Hard.”

Sadie asked her followers to please pray for the area.

We can’t believe that Korie and Sadie Robertson were so close to this awful tragedy. It’s hard to imagine that these sorts of things take place in the world. Hopefully the prayers Sadie and Korie ask for are answered soon.
