Both Christian Serratos (Rosita) and Alanna Masterson (Tara) missed a few episodes due to maternity leave. The actress who plays Rosita said it’s interesting due to the many beginnings of the show.

She’s referring to the major plot changes on the show. Rick thought he defeated the Saviors back in Season 6. In reality, he was only attacking the tip of an iceberg. Now, after a season of being the weaker man, he’s back.

This is also true for the other characters in the series.

Christian Serratos has her own new beginnings as well. “I’ve had so many new beginnings and I feel like now is another new beginning. And with each one of those new beginnings, the show kind of changes a little bit.”

“So when I came in, it was a little bit smaller and all of us hung out more often because we were with each other more often on set. Now, there’s so many different stories and so many different people, and the family has just grown…”

Now the various characters are finally coming together.

Working With “New Friends” On Set

During Season 7, the actors were literally separated by their groups. Khary Payton, who plays King Ezekiel, didn’t even meet Andrew Lincoln until Rick was in a scene with him. He actually flubbed a line when he turned to see the characters.

Christian Serratos referred to it as having “new friends around.” Based on her character, she got to spend more time with those in Alexandria than other groups. Now, she’ll be with all of the groups, or at least all of the good guys.

Actress Melissa McBride (Carol) also spoke about literally missing those around her. That’s why her scene with Norman Reedus (Daryl) was so powerful last season. The two really hadn’t spent much time together on the set.

The writers behind the show are working their “movie magic” with Christian Serratos. We’ll likely see some stand-ins and stunt people working some of her action scenes while she’s off with her child.

Do you think Rosita will make better decisions this season?
