No. It wasn’t her breast, but Mayim Bialik caused quite the storm when she posted a photo of a fan breast feeding at a truck stop. What prompted The Big Bang Theory actress to take such a picture?
Mayim Bialik And Breastfeeding
Mayim Bialik posted an Instagram that caused quite the stir over the weekend. The actress is no stranger to controversial posts, but this one, in particular, got quite a bit of attention because it involved a fan.
Mayim posted the above photo saying, “Met a fan at a rest stop in #Minnesota nursing her 3 month old. I asked if I can post this and she said yes. Proud mama she is!” Mayim then hashtagged a few phrases involving the normalization of breast feeding.

Mayim was very proud of her breastfeeding while raising her young son, who are now 8 and 11 years old. Mayim breastfed her sons until they were 4 and 2, much longer than most mothers. In regards to the criticism she received she said, “But that’s the way that mammals feed their babies, so I don’t really know what the fuss is about…I think there’s a lot of standards of what we want women to do and what we don’t want them to do, and breastfeeding is a different way of presenting breasts – ie, not sexually. There will always be people who don’t want to breastfeed and those who do. I’m a lactation education counsellor as well, so I counsel women who need assistance, the way other women did for me.”

Many of Mayim’s motherhood choices are out of the norm, as she subscribes to an “attachment” parenting style. In Mayim’s book Beyond The Sling, she outlined many of her parenting choices including wearing the baby in a sling close to the body, and co-sleeping. Many people were thrown off by the radical parenting views, but Mayim says, “I was prepared for a strong reaction. But I’m very confident that the way we decided to raise our kids works for us… other people don’t have to agree with that.”
