Currently, The Walking Dead has two different story arcs going as they try to differentiate the comic books from the AMC series. That said, the comic just went very dark in Issue 161, and this could come up sooner in the television version. So who just died?

In the comic, Maggie and Carl are battling amidst the blaze at the Hilltop Mansion during the Whisperer War. During the fight, the mansion collapses on Carl while he is looking for survivors in the building.

In the comic’s plot line, Dr. Carson tries his best to save Carl with CPR, but the effort seems hopeless. Over the next few pages, in smaller and smaller panels, Carl’s eyes never open. This doesn’t necessarily mean he’s dead, but it’s certainly a possibility. It’s evil to kill off Carl in a drawn-out way like this, but this is part of The Walking Dead universe.

For fans who love the one-eyed warrior, this means that IF Carl is dead in the comic, the TV series will likely follow suit. In addition, with all of the Auburn talk for Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl, the worst could happen earlier than we think. Especially since Negan has the boy under his wing. So will Carl make it through Season 8?

Will Chandler Riggs Return?

Riggs has said he “can’t answer” whether he’ll be in Season 8 or not, and it’s likely that the show can work around the boy’s schedule. But dying in the comics means you will one day die in the series.

“You never know how it will go… I want for it to work out,” said Chandler Riggs.

“Theoretically, I could take one or two classes on campus and maybe an online class. My professors would have to cooperate. It wouldn’t be easy, but I think that could be possible.”

What do you think? Would Robert Kirkman really kill Carl Grimes on AMC‘s The Walking Dead?
