Hindsight or Hypocrisy?

After spending months criticizing President Trump over his policies on illegal immigration, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is doing an about face. With an alarming uptick in the number of illegals flooding over the border, Trudeau is now sounding his own warning bells.

“Canada is an opening and welcoming society, but let me be clear. We are also a country of laws,” Trudeau said after a meeting in Montreal with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. “Entering Canada irregularly is not an advantage. There are rigorous immigration and customs rules that will be followed. Make no mistake.”

These are the same rigorous rules that he condemned President Trump for enforcing in the U.S.

Earlier this year, the president came under fire for halting refugees from entering the country and his crackdown on illegal immigrants. Trudeau, being a good leftist, took that as an opportunity to bash President Trump. In a highly celebrated tweet, Trudeau welcomed Trump’s alleged “victims.”

However, Trudeau now seems to be regretting his decision.

The number of illegals crossing into Canada nearly tripled over the summer. Approximately 884 people came in through Quebec in June, while over two-thousand came over in July. Many of the immigrants are Haitians who were forced to leave their country thanks to natural disasters-and the Clinton Foundation.

Nevertheless, Trudeau wants all immigrants to know that Canada’s laws apply to everyone regardless of where they are from. “Our rules, our principles, and our laws apply to everyone,” Trudeau cautioned. Ironically, Canada’s immigration requirements are very similar to those in the U.S.

These are just some of the requirements of applying for Canadian citizenship:

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Provide proof that you know how to speak and write in 1 of Canada’s official languages (either English or French)
  • File your taxes for at least 4 years out of 6 and pay any income tax you owe.
