The Tweeter

Zachary Benson is the first to be charged for tweeting about assassinating Trump. Hundreds of people tweeted about assassinating Donald Trump, but 24-year old Benson took it too far.

Benson has been charged in a federal court after his tweet went live on election night.

Benson’s second tweet: “My life goal is to assassinate Trump. Don’t care if I serve infinite sentences. That man deserves to decease (sic) existing.”

He was arrested and interviewed by the Secret Service, just few hours after the tweet.

Benson wasn’t the only one to call for Trump’s assassination using Twitter, but he is currently the first person to be charged.

After talking to the Secret Service, Benson confessed that had no intention of following through with the assassination threat. Benson said that the tweet was just a result of frustration: frustrated thinking about how President-elect Trump’s policies could affect his job.

Benson did delete the tweets in the morning. But the Secret Service had already been tipped. Benson is currently in custody, pending a bail hearing.

On another note, the current Prime Minister of Australia, and the Leader of the Liberal Party, has publicly welcomed Trump’s proposal of U.S. military buildup in the Asia-Pacific region.

Turnbull was asked about Trump’s plan to deploy a giant U.S. military force to counter China in the region, and his comment was brilliant; “a stronger United States means a safer world”.

Trump plans to expand the U.S. Navy from 274 ships to 350. His main strategy is to extensively deploy in the region to counter China’s growing assertiveness.

Turnbull also said, “I think the United States is entitled to expect its allies to make a commitment, a significant commitment, to their own defense and to that partnership, and Australia does.

No one can suggest that my government is not absolutely committed to ensuring that the men and women of the ADF have the capabilities, have the resources, to keep our nation safe.”
