Donald Trump turned a deaf ear to Mexico’s president’s claims that Mexico will not pay for Donald Trump’s wall. In Trump’s long-awaited immigration policy speech Wednesday he confirmed,
“Mexico will pay for the wall … they don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay.”
Everyone just assumes that Mr. Trump is expecting the Mexican president to just write the U.S. a check. That is as ridiculous as it sounds. No wonder everyone is scoffing at the idea.
Consider this: Donald trump is already making inroads. As a businessman, he is the master of “the art of the deal.” That means, in a good deal–everyone wins. Each side gets something that they want. We want the wall built. We want the Mexican government to pay for it. This is called negotiations.
What does Mexico want? Maybe to end the scourge of cartel?
Reports are becoming more frequent that suggest Trump will use cartel money to build the wall. Seizing assets from drug cartels. Along with other traffickers. Their estimated revenue is at 14 billion dollars. That would easily clear the 8 billion currently estimated to build the wall.
A “joint border security fund” would hold seized assets from crackdowns. This would happen on both sides of the border. In theory, it could pay for both the construction and maintenance.
Mexico would pay for Donald Trump’s wall,
without writing a check.
Stephen Bannon, Trump’s campaign CEO, said that seized cartel resources will help fund the wall.
Ben Carson told Fox News,
“Recognize that a lot of money is going to be saved by enforcing our borders, by not, you know, giving various types of benefits to people who are here illegally. That money is money that we otherwise would not have had and that can be applied to the wall and various other things. That’s I believe the spirit in which that comment is made. I don’t think Mexico is going to write a check out and say here, pay for the wall.”
“The United States will not be paying for the wall. Mexico will be paying for the wall.” Donald Trump
People dismiss Donald Trump because they don’t understand the art of negotiations. Maybe this is why the Founding Fathers didn’t want career politicians in office. Their vision was that businessmen would take time out of their lives, and serve their country.
They knew that that’s what it would take to keep the country from falling into the abyss of tyranny.
It only makes sense that Mexico would be more than willing to enforce their borders, and get a handle on the human trafficking that plagues Mexico. It’s not just Mexico’s problem, it’s our problem.
Leave it to a businessman to make a way for two countries to craft a deal that makes criminals pay for the good of all. That’s the only way it’s going to happen.
