As we grow older, our journey through life is a myriad of twists and turns. It’s easy to forget the essence of who we are during these times of transition. It’s empowering to reconnect with our inner child and we can do this through meditation.
Meditation strips back the layers of the past
There is no resource as kind, nurturing or complete as meditation. It asks for very little bar regular practice but offers much in respect of calming and healing and it provides guidance in life.
Meditation can also be adapted to suit your needs.
It’s an excellent medium for personal development but, it enables you to strip back the years and to reconnect with that younger version of you.
This is incredibly empowering.
Do you remember your inner child?
Depending on your age, your childhood may seem a long way back.
It might be difficult to recall what you were like and sometimes, it’s even hard to recall how you looked.
This is where regular meditative practice enables you to summon up that former you.
In time, you can almost manifest this imagery, it will feel so real, but it takes practice. Don’t be despondent if you struggle initially.
Meet and greet your inner child
If you want to try this meditation for yourself, you need to turn back time. To do so, find a quiet space and one where you will not be disturbed.
This meditation can be as short or as long as is needed.
If you are new to meditating, start with just 5-minutes. If your attention wanders, do not be judgmental. It happens to everyone, but persevere, bring your attention back and regain focus.
Close your eyes and take a few deep calming breaths.
Focus on that younger you.
Try to regain your sense of spirit, your cheekiness, and innocence.
Try to picture a time when you were at your happiest.
This could be at school when you were drawing or painting or, playing with friends. It might be a time when something wonderful happened and you remember it vividly.
If this is difficult, try to recall a photograph of yourself when you were young and remain fixed on the image.
Focus on each detail.
The color of your hair, your eyes.
Notice if you are smiling, remember that young you and let the time between then and now just dissipate.
In time, you can choose whether to interact, to ask questions or, to observe from a distance.
It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to strip away the years and to reconnect with the essence of who you are.
It enables you to free yourself from the tensions of the day and to reconnect with a time gone by.
Remember, the more you practice this, the stronger the meditation becomes.
