The Walking Dead Without Rick Grimes
Like Game of Thrones, characters on The Walking Dead come and go. Some characters stick around for the long haul (Daryl), while others get killed off right away (Noah). But it’s hard to imagine the series without Rick Grimes.
Robert Kirkman has said that no one is safe in the iconic series. This means that even Rick Grimes will die one day. It’s unclear if the show and the comic will follow the same storyline for the iconic character.
Actor Andrew Lincoln said, “There’s only so many ways you can bend and stretch” this story and this character.
Setting The Show Up For The Future
Lincoln added, “I’m not saying that the show would ever finish, but I certainly think that there’s an opportunity for the show to change at some point, and I think it should.” This could mean killing off the lead character in a significant way.
The actor also believes that the show is set up for Carl Grimes to take over. “It’s beautifully set up for that – for the camera to be certainly his story, and then it just shifts off. If ever there was a landscape or an environment to do that, it’s our show. But whether or not that’s this season… well, you have to find out, don’t you?”
For now, the show is still about the group as a whole.
Carl Grimes, Leader Of The Survivors
Robert Kirkman and the creators of the show have said they predict it could last twenty seasons on AMC. This would mirror the overall story arc of Star Trek or even westerns like Gunsmoke.
There’s never really been a show where the lead died, and another character took over that did super well. However, Rick Grimes passing the torch to his son Carl Grimes could be a real possibility.
The next difficulty will be whether or not Chandler Riggs can hang on to the role for such a long time. It’s possible that they could have a time jump and change actors, but fans would be upset if that happened.
Do you think Rick Grimes will be killed off and the show will go on?
