Norman Reedus Talks About His Discovery

When asked about the origin of his acting career, Norman Reedus recalls a party where he had too much to drink. On Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, the 45-year-old actor discussed his discovery.

“I was working at a motorcycle shop in Los Angeles, and went to work, got in a fight (with his boss) and got fired. A friend of mine took me to a party and I drank way too much and started yelling at a bunch of people,” began the actor.

“Somebody approached me and asked me if I wanted to be in a play,” said Reedus.

Norman Reedus was then asked to be in a play as the understudy. He ended up going out on the first night. A casting agent started to “hip-pocket” him, which means sending him out on auditions, but not under contract.

This is essentially the dream scenario for anyone moving to Los Angeles, but Norman Reedus is obviously not like everyone else. After the play, he went on to make movies for twenty years before The Walking Dead.

His attitude towards the role is what makes him so iconic.

Norman Reedus has never been concerned with stardom. He’s consciously chosen roles that mean something to him, ignoring offers for rom-coms and other films that feel less significant on the grander scale.

The actor loves finding beauty in the grotesque, which is true of his photography as well as the roles he picks. In fact, it’s really no surprise that he’s such a success on the show, based on the nature of the beast.

For seven full seasons, Norman Reedus has enticed fans with the role of Daryl Dixon. More than likely, he’ll be in almost every episode as the creators stretch the series to 12 or 20 full seasons.
