Is Rick Grimes Actually Going To Fear The Walking Dead?

Fans are racking their brains over the news of Andrew Lincoln potentially leaving The Walking Dead after Season 9. However, based on various clues, it sounds like he’s being phased out rather than being killed off. Therefore, he could return later, especially if he goes to Fear the Walking Dead.

Putting Rick Grimes on Fear the Walking Dead sounds like the most drastic response to changing the protagonist, but no one ever thought the show would kill off Carl Grimes either. However, there were some comments in the past that indicate Rick’s story might be over, but Lincoln isn’t done with the iconic character.

Andrew Lincoln said his relationship with Rick Grimes was “far from over.”

“I think that when we got the news that Carl was dying on the show—it certainly for me—it felt like very much of a bookend of a much bigger journey that began in the hospital,” said Andrew Lincoln about his character. It’s no argument to say that every fan was shocked by the news of Carl’s bite.

“Searching for his wife and his son were the two engines that kept this man alive at the beginning of the show eight years,” Lincoln added. “To lose the second engine that fueled him, at this point, certainly did feel, to me personally, not just the end of a chapter but a book, really.”

Andrew Lincoln has often spoken about an endpoint to his character, but it feels almost distracting or unworthy for that to happen now. Since the death of Carl Grimes, the show almost feels like a sinking ship. Lauren Cohan seems to be on the fence and it’s unclear what’s going on with Rick Grimes.

“I really feel that the fans — and also for my own satisfaction — that there deserves to be an endpoint. There needs to be an end game and that is something that is definitely being talked about,” Lincoln said. “I can’t get into all of that. But all of that will be answered.”

However, Lincoln has also said the story between Rick and Morgan is far from over. It would make some sense for his character to make a trip to Texas with Judith and maybe Michonne.

After all, the trip would give him purpose, but there might need to be communication for him to look for Morgan.
