Time For Rick Grimes To Shine

The Walking Dead has stumbled some in the past. Not only have they killed off beloved characters, but they’ve also, occasionally, followed character storylines that most fans don’t care about it (No offense, Tara and Heath).

That said, as the series returns, we’re going to see a lot more of Rick Grimes. It’s been announced that episodes will follow the ensemble rather than focus on individual characters for full episodes.

Sometimes this works for television, but not always. The most recent success would be the third and final season of HBO’s The Leftovers.

Writing A Successful Ensemble Show

Movie Pilot writes:

The Walking Dead, like a few other series, is largely an ensemble show with a vast array of characters. Even so, those series should have a main protagonist that we consistently watch develop every season.”

“In Season 7, Rick was scarred from Negan’s head-crushing introduction and for the majority of the season, the once fearless leader took a step back. While it made sense last season, fans started getting restless for Rick Grimes to get back to being Rick Grimes by the finale.”

“It was overdue for Rick to decide that Alexandria could not live in fear anymore and that they must rise against the Saviors.”

Greg Nicotero has recently announced, “We start Season 8 with a close-up shot of Rick Grimes, and we soon feel that he is the one who dominates the plot, not Negan,” which will be different from Season 7 of the series.

Season 7 spent around 12-16 episodes setting up the plot for Rick and Negan’s All Out War, based on Negan’s comic book. Now it’s time to harvest those seeds and create some much better television. Based on the trailer, it looks action-packed.

What do you think Rick will do in the season premiere of TWD?
