Thousands of men and women of the United States military give their lives every year in order to protect us here at home. And one band wanted to honor those brave souls.

In honor of those folks, the Six-String Soldiers, a four-member acoustic group, visited a war memorial to pay their respects to these fallen soldiers.

They stood among tombstones of the heroes of this country with their instruments — mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar, and acoustic bass — and played a simple rendition of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

They don’t sing or say a word in the entire video, but the emotion and heart is felt in every frame. We do see them place American flags in the ground next to the tombstones in honor of those fallen.

“The Battle Hymn of the Republic” is a patriotic hymn penned by American writer Julia Ward Howe, and the tune is often played at military funerals.

The Six-String Soldiers met while serving in the US Army. They started the band to share their personal experiences they’ve had during their service.

Many times, soldiers and veterans don’t get this kind of respect nowadays. Just recently, a veteran was shot and robbed at gunpoint right after cashing his $600 benefit check.

Fortunately, people like the guys in the Six-String Soldiers remind us what respect looks like.
