Bob Newhart Set To Return To TBBT
Professor Proton actor Bob Newhart is likely to return to Season 11 of The Big Bang Theory. Despite passing away in a previous episode, Newhart’s character will return again as Sheldon Cooper’s personal Obi-Wan Kenobi.
TV Line confirms, “Since the last time Amy’s now-fiancé was visited by his childhood idol (in Season 9’s “The Opening Night Excitation”) he was concerned about losing his virginity, perhaps this time around, he needs advice on making the wedding night memorable?”
Arthur Jefferies was also in the premiere episode of Young Sheldon.
The Comedian’s Return To Primetime
Bob Newhart won his first Emmy for Season 6’s episode, “The Proton Resurgence.” It’s hard to believe that the comedian straight-man never won an Emmy for his starring roles on Newhart and The Bob Newhart Show.
In 1962, Bob Newhart was nominated as a writer for The Bob Newhart Show. He was then nominated three more times for Newhart in the 1980s. He’s been nominated three times for TBBT and once for The Librarian.
Newhart finally won for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, 2007.
Professor Proton Strikes Again
On this season of The Big Bang Theory, most of the focus will be on Sheldon and Amy. Raj seems to be lost looking for love. Bernadette and Howard are expecting once more, and Leonard and Penny seem content where they are.
As TV Line wrote, it’s possible that Sheldon will be seeking advice for another night with Amy. Then again, it could be anything. He asked Stephen Hawking for advice with the proposal, but he may need other help from Bob Newhart’s character.
There could also be a connection to the new series, Young Sheldon. In the premiere episode, Professor Proton was on the television in 1980s Texas. It’s possible that something Sheldon learns on Young Sheldon will reprise in The Big Bang Theory.
It’s possible that Sheldon will need help in regards to Amy, but it could just be about being a good husband in general.
What advice do you think Professor Proton will provide this season?
