JUST IN: CBS Announced ‘Young Sheldon’ Is Renewed For Season 2

Last Saturday, CBS announced that Young Sheldon will get a second season. Many critics of the show were skeptical that The Big Bang Theory spinoff would work, since it’s so unlike the original series.

The show focuses on Jim Parsons’ character, Sheldon Cooper, back when he was around 9-years-old in Texas. The 30-minute-an-episode prequel is also produced by Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro, where Jim Parsons narrates.

The series also stars Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, and Montana Jordan.

’Young Sheldon’ has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it’s been on the air,” said CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl. “While the show’s DNA is clearly rooted in ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ ‘Young Sheldon’ has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing and a gifted multi-generational cast.”

Kahl added that she can’t wait to see what happens next to the Cooper Family. Similarly, The Big Bang Theory fans may have noticed an increasing number of references to Sheldon’s backstory on the original series.

In the latest episode, Sheldon Cooper discussed his brother Georgie, and it’s likely we’ll see the whole Cooper Clan at the wedding.

Moving On After The Big Bang Theory

Young Sheldon is just getting going, but The Big Bang Theory may be coming to an end. Leonard actor Johnny Galecki has said the cast is “comfortable” potentially coming to an end after twelve seasons. Perhaps this comfortable comes from the various stars already working on new projects.

Johnny Galecki has signed up for the Roseanne reboot and he’s producing a show for CBS called Living Biblically. Likewise, Sheldon actor Jim Parsons is working on producing a medical drama, in addition to Young Sheldon.

Simon Helberg will be producing an ensemble cast sitcom called Need To Know, which will focus on the CIA. There’s not a ton of info on this new series, but it sounds a little like Brooklyn Nine-Nine with the CIA.

We haven’t heard anything for Kunal Nayyar yet, but Kaley Cuoco has also agreed to produce and star in a mini-series called The Flight Attendant.
