Rumors Off Camera For The Walking Dead

There was once a rumor that Daryl Dixon might be gay and that he and Jesus may get together on The Walking Dead. Greg Nicotero quickly shot this down in a panel to discuss the future of the series.
Norman Reedus has confirmed that Frank Darabont, who originally produced The Walking Dead before legal battles arose, told Reedus Daryl Dixon would be a homosexual. Reedus now says Darabont denies ever saying this fact.
The actor spoke with Mirror about the original declaration.
Norman Reedus Discusses Darabont’s Idea

“There was a time on the show where Frank [Darabont]was going to have me be gay, but he won’t admit it. If he admits it’s like he’ll kill you,” said Reedus. “He referred to it as “prison gay,” and I didn’t know what that meant.”
According to Reedus, Frank Darabont said this on the way to an Oscar party for The Fighter back in 2010. Reedus was immediately on board as he thought it would bring more to his character. So far, Daryl Dixon seems asexual.
Reedus said Darabont brought it up as a question.

“We were there and he said, “What do you think if we made Daryl gay?” and I was like, “Let’s do it,” said Reedus about their conversation. “It never happened obviously, but I’m not against it and if it happened I would be down for it.”
Robert Kirkman also shot down the gay rumors for Daryl, so perhaps this was only a thought in passing for Frank Darabont. Kirkman also referred to Daryl as “asexual” as he’s mainly a character trying to figure out himself in this new world.
There’s also some online chatter about the issue where Kirkman once said that he and AMC would be fine if Daryl were gay, but he’s actually straight so they decided not to go that way with the character.
Currently, however, there doesn’t seem to be any love in Daryl’s near future.
