Phil Robertson famously endorsed Roy Moore earlier this year. However, he has since been silent about the allegations brought against Moore by multiple women. So, does Phil Robertson still approve of his chosen candidate?
Phil Robertson’s Endorsement
In the past, Phil Robertson hasn’t shied away from involving himself in politics. The patriarch of the Duck Dynasty franchise, Phil is a straight shooter, with conservative Christian views when it comes to just about everything.
He previously endorsed Roy Moore, saying, “I have been an admirer for some time of Judge Roy Moore. He judged with a good understanding of the Constitution and the law, but he also understands natural law and who gave us our rights to begin with, Almighty God. Roy Moore will stand up for truth and what’s right, no matter who opposes him, and that is sorely needed in Washington DC. I fully endorse his run for the Senate and pray for he and his family.”
However, earlier in November over five women accused Roy Moore of sexual misconduct. Many of these women were underage. One was as young as 14 at the time of the alleged crime. Moore denies the claims, and has said, “I don’t remember ever dating any girl without the permission of her mother.” However, the Republican National Committee saw it fit to break their fundraising agreement with Moore. Many politicians have come forward stating they no longer support Moore. Phil Robertson is not one of those people.
Phil’s Previous Statements
The Robertson patriarch has made no official comment on the Moore scandal, nor has he rescinded his endorsement.
Fans have uncovered a previous quote from Phil Robertson that leads some to believe he would approve of Moore’s alleged actions. Phil Robertson has previously stated that men should marry girls when they are in their teenage years. Before 2014, he said in a video, “They got to where they’re getting hard to find, mainly because these boys are waiting ’til they get to be about 20 years old before they marry ’em. Look, you wait ’til they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They’ll pick your ducks.”
While Robertson has made no official statement specifically about Moore, his previous statements give us reason to believe he might give Moore the benefit of the doubt. What do you think will happen? Will Phil Robertson speak up about his endorsement before the election in December?
