Amy Farrah Fowler, Sheldon Cooper, the Big Bang Theory

Most fans may think that Sheldon got lucky when he met Amy Farrah Fowler. The two are pretty much a match made in heaven, as they are both very similar. However, picture this. You’re excited because your girlfriend or boyfriend is coming over to see your favorite movie for the very first time. Once the film ends, you turn off the TV and turn to your partner with a big grin on your face. Your partner then proceeds to rip your favorite movie a new one. Well, that is what exactly happened to Sheldon back in 2013.

Sheldon’s favorite movie just so happens to be Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Now, I’m not really an Indiana Jones fan, myself, however I would not be able to rip apart something that someone cares about so much.

However, that may be very difficult for highly intellectual people like Sheldon and Amy to do. According to Amy, the movie has a “glaring story problem.” She explained: “Indiana Jones plays no role in the outcome of the story. If he weren’t in the film, it would turn out exactly the same… If he weren’t in the movie, the Nazis would still have found the Ark, taken it to the island, opened it up, and all died, just like they did.”

Other media sources have urged fans of both franchises to read Simon Gallagher’s breakdown of the subject. Overall, he believes Amy’s points to be quite valid. Sheldon does try to get revenge by inviting Amy over for a night of Little House on the Prairie. During which he starts to point out the flaws within the series. However, Amy sees through his façade and forces him to speak honestly about how he felt when she tore apart Indiana Jones.

Though some Indiana Jones fans may be angry at the treatment of what could arguably be the most famous of the franchise, if you can look beyond that, the Indiana Jones plot is just a device to set up some good character development. Sheldon ultimately had to express emotion, something he has a hard time doing, in order to get past the problem. Instead of doing what he would usually do, get even, he learned to solve his problem through communication.

When it comes right down to it, Amy Farrah Fowler is actually a very good match for Sheldon. They are quite similar in personality, they both care about each other deeply, and Amy can call Sheldon out on his own social issues in order to make him a better person and partner. Honestly, Amy and Sheldon’s relationship is one of my favorite themes on the show and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them in season 10. Now that that they have successfully consummated the relationship, will they be taking bigger steps in their relationship? Will they eventually be married? We will have to tune in to season 10 to find out.
