We reported back in April, that James Comey testified he was “uneasy” about Lynch’s role in the FBI probe into Clinton. At one time, the former attorney general demanded that Comey was to refer to the situation as a “matter” rather than as an investigation.

Now, the Senate Judiciary Committee has launched a formal investigation into Lynch’s actions. Committee Chairman, Chuck Grassley, sent a letter to Lynch asking her to detail, in-depth, her involvement in the FBI’s investigation. Specifically, the committee wants to know if Lynch assured those close to Clinton that the probe wouldn’t “push to deeply into the matter.”

In addition, according to ABC News, the committee has also requested details on Lynch’s communication with a Clinton campaign aide as well any documents and information about whether the FBI investigated the alleged communication. The committee also sent letters to Clinton campaign staffer Amanda Renteria and Leonard Benardo and Gail Scovell at the Open Society Foundations.

Mr. Benardo was reportedly on an email chain from the then-head of the Democratic National Committee suggesting Ms. Lynch had given assurances to Ms. Renteria, the campaign staffer, that the Clinton probe wouldn’t “go too far.” Interestingly, the letters sent to Lynch and the others were not only signed by Senator Lindsey Graham, but also by two Democrats.

Senators Dianne Feinstein and Sheldon Whitehouse have publicly stated their concerns about Lynch’s actions, with Feinstein being the first to call for a formal inquiry into the matter. At some point, it is likely that Lynch will be called to testify, under oath, about her actions.
