Thomas Rhett’s wife, Lauren, is more than his rock, more than his life companion. She’s also his honest music critic.

“Lauren is so funny because Lauren is kind of a genre-less person, which is probably where I get it from,” Rhett told Nash Country Daily. “She doesn’t see these lines. It is either a good song or a bad song. Lauren gets bored very easily. She’s not one of those people that I could go play a song like [George Strait’s] ‘The Chair’ to and her be entertained. She’s like ‘eh, whatever.’ There’s nothing wrong with that. I look at her like I look at 80 percent of my female fans. So if Lauren digs this song, I’m pretty certain that most every other girls her age is going to dig this song.”

He’s right about that, too. Girls (and guys) love his music.

His most recent album, “Tangled Up,” became certified gold, selling at least a half million units. The 2015 record includes his hit song “Die A Happy Man,” which shows up on pop radio every now and then. He wrote it about his wife/co-songwriter.

His recent single “Star of the Show” — also about Lauren (man, this guy loves his wife) — is on “Tangled Up Deluxe.”

“I tried to make this album as fun as I possibly could and if I am gonna cut—if I was gonna cut a ballad—it had to be something she thoroughly enjoyed,” Rhett said. “Like ‘Die a Happy Man,’ obviously she loved it—it’s about her. She can’t not like that. But even a song like ‘The Day You Stop Lookin’ Back,’ which is really slow. She loves Jaren Johnston. She loves The Cadillac Three. It probably had a lot to do with that, that he wrote that song, but it’s one of my favorite songs on the record. So she had a lot of influence on it.”

He is committed to his wife — so committed that he set up rules for when he’s on the road.

“The rules and precedents I’ve set for myself out on the road really are the biggest things that kind of hold our marriage together,” he told Taste of Country. “No girls on the bus, no girls touch me during meet and greet and all that kind of stuff.” He even used a body double in the “It Goes Like This” music video.

“As strict as rules as they are, those kinds of things have to be enforced for me to keep my guard up and for her to trust that what (I say is) going on on the road is really what’s going on on the road,” he said.

This music-making couple is also a money-raising couple. They recently raised $250,000 for 147 Million Orphans through Rhett’s Nashville-based charity event, Thomas Rhett & Friends.

It seems like they do just about everything together.
