French rock band Phoenix hasn’t played live for about three years. But now they’re back.

Phoenix (photo via Wendell Murray Jr) “The French alternative pop outfit have since revealed a full summer touring schedule,” reports Consequence Of Sound. Some of the shows will be with artists like Whitney, Miike Snow, and The Lemon Twigs.

The band first came to fame in 2009 with their album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which went Gold in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

“With our first three albums, people would like one or the other, and now they’re all agreeing on this one, which is amazing,” said Thomas Mars, the band’s lead singer. “I don’t know if it’s because of [producer] Phillippe Zdar or if has to do with the idea that we were tired of things that were a little too respectful and elegant.”

He then equates their breakout album to perfume.

“It’s like how in perfume there’s one element that’s really repelling — we wanted to make that stronger,” he said. “Also, we were freer because there were no record companies involved. For the first time, we controlled the way we wanted fans to discover the music.”

From that album, they gave away their song “1901” as a free download. People responded so well that the band knew they had made something special. And, as the masses have proclaimed, they did make something special. And now they’re hitting the road again to connect with their fans.
