What exactly is a redneck? How are they different from regular ol’ Southerners? Or is that a different name for the same thing? An example of what rednecks do in their free time (source: I-95 FM) That’s what this is all about. If you want to know what makes a redneck red, continue reading.

Redneck Fashion

What you wear says a lot about who you are. An astronaut wears a space suit, a ballerina wears a tutu, and a redneck wears a specific type of clothing.

Obviously, each person has their own specific tastes, but here are some styles that you’ll definitely see in redneck country.

Redneck men wear unkempt facial hair and are not afraid to grow out their head hair.

Redneck ladies gravitate toward tube tops, “Daisy Duke” shorts, and spend plenty of time tanning.

For both men and women in redneck nation, they have a ton of tattoos and a plethora of camouflage clothing. Oh yeah, most of their fashion comes from Wal-Mart — that store is like the headquarters of hick style.

Redneck TV

Country TV, a pillar in the redneck community. What do you do after a long day of hunting, fishing, and mud runs? You crack open a cold one, hit the La-Z-Boy and turn on the telly.

The Country Music Channel and Great American Country are two TV channels that a TV-watching redneck must have access to. Typically, watching these channels is a daily activity. It’s understandable — those channels show country music videos and shows aimed at the hillbilly lifestyle. For example, “Trick My Truck” (redneck version of “Pimp My Ride”), “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and “Hee Haw” are some TV shows perfect for rednecks.

Only country music for rednecks

Stop a redneck on the street and ask him or her what music they listen to. It’s almost guaranteed that they’ll say country music.

First, they like funny songs. Just to drop some names: Ray Stevens, Rodney Carrington, and any song that pokes gentle fun at rednecks. They like to laugh at themselves.

Second, hicks like patriotic country songs — like seriously patriotic. For example, “God Bless The USA” by Lee Greenwood or “America” by The Charlie Daniels Band.

Third, rednecks also like to listen to Rock n’ Roll, mostly southern and classic rock. Mention Lynyrd Skynrd in front of a hillbilly and you’ll get them excited. Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, and Eagles are also in redneck music libraries.

But most of all, rednecks love country music. There are too many to name, but a few artists included Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Hank Williams Sr. And even some new artists like Brooks & Dunn and Jake Owen.

And there you have it — the things that rednecks love. Did you find yourself loving the same things listed above? If yes, then you’re probably one yourself!
