I first started watching the Big Bang Theory with my dad when I was in middle school. Now, I’m out of college. That is a very long time ago. When I first started watching, I kind of had a distaste for Howard Walowitz. I mean I was 13 and he acted like a pervert. His lines were hilarious to me though. But as time went on and Howard started to mature thanks to his relationship with Bernadette, Walowitz started to grow on me. Plus, have you seen him without the trademark Walowitz bowl cut? Simon Helberg is a cutie! But, Johnny Galecki is still the one I make big eyes at.

Recently, the San Diego International Film Festival revealed that actor and apparent filmmaker Simon Helberg will receive its 2016 Auteur Award. The trophy was presented on Sept 29th at The Night of the Stars Tribute at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla.

According to Variety, the Auteur Award recognizes a multi-talented actor who brings unique personal visions to his or her craft. Helberg has earned acclaim for his performances on both the big and small screen, as well as behind the camera as a writer and director.

He most recently received good reviews for his role opposite Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant in Stephen Frears’ “Florence Foster Jenkins.” Has anyone seen it? Is it good? Let me know in the comments!

The Film

Helberg made his feature directorial debut in 2015 with “We’ll Never Have Paris.” I have heard of the film, but I’ve never seen it. I also had no idea he was attached to it. He wrote the script, stars as the lead, and co-directed the film with his wife, writer/director Jocelyn Towne. Additional acting credits include “A Serious Man,” from Ethan and Joel Coen, and George Clooney’s “Good Night, and Good Luck.” “A Serious Man” is really good! Go see it!

We’ll Never Have Paris is a 2014 American romantic comedy It stars Helberg, Melanie Lynskey, Zachary Quinto, Maggie Grace, Jason Ritter and Alfred Molina. It is based on the real life engagement of star Simon Helberg to his wife, Jocelyn Towne. The title is a reference to the very famous line “We’ll Always Have Paris” from the film Casablanca (1942).That is so sweet!

And yes. Simon Helberg played in a romantic comedy opposite Melanie Lynskey aka Rose from Two and a Half Men. It’s a small world after all. Does anyone else find this both hilarious and awesome?

Simon has had an incredible past couple years of creating dynamic characters on screen as well as fostering his own vision as a filmmaker, and we are proud to honor him with this year’s Auteur Award” said Tonya Mantooth, the festival’s executive and artistic director.

With Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki having new projects in film, it’s nice to see Simon out there making his talents known as well. Has anyone seen “We’ll Never Have Paris?” Did you like it? Would you recommend it? Tell us in the comments below.
