Enough is Enough

Republican Congressman, Rodney Davis, stood in the hallway of the Capitol building and said what many people have been thinking about the political climate in America. Speaking to CNN after the Wednesday morning shooting at Simpson Baseball field in Arlington, VA, he was angry.

And rightfully so.

A gunman opened fire on Davis and 15-20 of his Republican colleagues, who were attending a morning practice in preparation for a charity baseball game. House Majority Whip, Steve Scalise, and four others were wounded. Still, in his baseball uniform, covered in the blood of his wounded friends, Davis told CNN, “hateful, divisive politics has to stop.”

“This needs to be a wake-up call,” Davis said. “The hateful political rhetoric and 24-hour hate-fueled news cycle is to blame for this.” Davis was asked he thought this was a targeted attack, to which he responded, “they knew who was on that field.” Florida Representative, Ron DeSantis, who left the field just prior to the attack, shared Davis’ sentiments.

“A man stopped an asked me on my way to the car, if it was Democrats or Republicans practicing,” DeSantis said. “Three minutes later the shooting started.” Capitol Police have not confirmed whether the man that stopped DeSantis and the shooter are in fact the same person. However, Davis and his colleagues believe the attack was…

Deliberate

It wouldn’t be difficult to place the blame squarely on the shoulders of a vengeful Left and a divisive media. While none of them pulled the trigger, they have without question provided the ammunition. Hardly a day, perhaps even an hour, goes by without hearing something negative about the GOP or President Trump.

No doubt, Democrats will bring out their tired gun control debate. It will be much easier for them to blame the shooting on gun violence than to admit it was politically charged violence. When you spend all your time pushing lies and trying to convince Americans that Republicans and President Trump are the enemies, something like this becomes almost inevitable.

We can only pray that liberals, both in and out of Washington, will heed Rep. Davis’ statement and realize that words and actions have consequences. On Wednesday, those consequences were almost fatal. Thankfully, by the grace of God, nobody was killed.

This time.
