Just two days ago, President Trump took the world by storm by speaking the truth about erasing Southern history. The president came under fire this week for blaming “both sides” for the deadly violence in Charlottesville, VA. During his press conference on Tuesday, the president not only called-out all violent groups, but he asked a very important question: Where does the erasing of American history stop?  “This week it’s Robert E. Lee. I noticed that Stonewall Jackson’s coming down,” Trump said. “I wonder, is it George Washington next week? And is it Thomas Jefferson the week after?

On the same day President Trump asked his question, Bishop James Dukes answered it. Dukes, the pastor of Liberation Christian Church in Chicago, has asked Mayor Rahm Emanuel to remove the statue of “slave owner” George Washington. He also wants two parks, named for Washington and Andrew Jackson, to be renamed.

“When I see that, I see a person who fought for the liberties, and I see people that fought for the justice and freedom of white America, because at that moment, we were still chattel slavery, and was three-fifths of humans,” said Dukes. “Some people out here ask me, say ‘Well, you know, he taught his slaves to read.’ That’s almost sad; the equivalent of someone who kidnaps you, that you gave them something to eat.”

What Dukes doesn’t understand is that slavery, abhorrent as it was, was the rule rather than the exception in those days. Whites, blacks, Native Americans, across the globe, owned slaves. If we are going to erase the memory of anyone, or anything, that had ties to slavery then American and European history will be erased.

And with it goes the U.S Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the American Flag.

Without our history, we have no choice but to return to the days of kings and masters. Dukes is free to despise George Washington, because he heroically fought for an individual’s right to be free from tyrannical rulers.

Instead, Dukes chooses to be enslaved by the lies of his liberal masters. How’s that for irony?
