Aside from being known for the murder of innocents across the globe, the Islamic State has also earned a reputation for being cultural jihadists. Everywhere they go, the terrorist group destroys monuments to erase history. Now, a Gwinnett County judge is being forced to turn over his gavel.

Why? For comparing those who are seeking to destroy American history to ISIS.

Judge Jim Hinkle, who has served on the bench for over 14 years, tendered his resignation on Thursday. Judge Hinkle first came under fire after posting on Facebook about the Charlottesville protesters. He made the post before a driver plowed into protesters, killing Heather Heyer.

“In Charlottesville, everyone is upset over Robert E. Lee statue. It looks like all of the snowflakes have no concept of history. It is what it is. Get over it and move on. Leave history alone – those who ignore history are deemed (sic) to repeat the mistake of the past.”

Hinkle’s suspension, however, came in response to his post on the toppling of a Confederate monument in Durham, NC. “The nut cases tearing down monuments are equivalent to ISIS destroying history,” wrote Judge Hinkle. That statement caught the attention of the Atlanta Journal Constituion, who contacted County Chief Magistrate, Judge Kristina Hammer Blum.

Judge Blum responded to AJC’s request for comment in an email. “After reviewing the Facebook posts you brought to my attention this morning, I have suspended Judge Hinkle effective immediately while I consider the appropriate final action,” wrote Blum. She also made it clear that all judges are to “conduct themselves in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity, impartiality, and fairness of the judiciary.”

Now if they could only hold liberal judges to the same high standards, right?

AJC reached out to Judge Hinkle for comment on Tuesday and he denied there was anything controversial about his post. “But you know, with the way things are going in the world today, I guess everything’s controversial,” he said, declining to comment further. Rather than accept being suspended the proud Marine Corps veteran, and an outspoken critic of Islam, handed over his resignation rather than his right to free speech.

Do you think Judge Hinkle was wrong? Tell us in the comments.
