It seems Thomas Rhett is aware of the old adage: “if momma ain’t happy, then nobody is happy.” In an interview with Taste of Country Nights, he shared that the songs are his new album are “Lauren approved.”
Rhett’s new album, Life Changes, released in early September. It’s a deeply personal project, as its title track suggests. Rhett said that the title referenced his rise to fame, as well as his feelings about becoming a father. “It’s kind of about my daughter and it’s kind of about a lot of things.”
One thing it’s about is his wife, Lauren. At least, having her seal of approval. And it seems he has it, though she has her favorites.
Rhett said that “most of [the songs on the album] are Lauren approved.” He added, “She likes all the songs, but there are ones that she loves.”
Two of her favorites are “Sixteen” and “Sweetheart, because “I guess they strike a chord with her that she can’t really describe,” Rhett says.
Rhett’s life really is all about changes.
As if fatherhood wasn’t enough of a change, he also continues to evolve in his career. His new album has a mix of sounds, as noted by Rolling Stone. “Chart-topping lead single “Craving You” featured Maren Morris and evoked the angular, futuristic disco of synth pop. In “Leave Right Now,” he tries his hand at the build-release style of dance music popularized by the Chainsmokers.”
What’s next in store for Rhett is a mystery. But with touring, fatherhood, and new music on the charts, it seems 2017 was a roller coaster of a ride! And given Lauren’s influence, it also seems his music will continue to please his wife and his fans!
