History. What a thing to have made. To have your name written in the books, that’s got to be a great feeling.

That’s why Sam Hunt has to feel pretty high right now; he just became the first solo male artists to top Billboard’s Country Airplay chart four times with singles from a debut album. This is since that chart started in 1990.

His latest single “Make You Miss Me” reached No. 1 after already having his songs “Take Your Time,” “Leave The Night On,” and “House Party” top the charts. All four of these hits are on his first album, “Montevallo.”

The fifth single from the album, “Make You Miss Me,” he co-wrote with Josh Osborne and Matthew Ramsey from Old Dominion. And let’s not forget about his single right before this one, “Break Up in a Small Town” — it climbed to No. 2 on the cart.

“‘Make You Miss Me’ is an important song to me,” Hunt told Billboard. “Having it go No. 1 as the fifth single off of my first record is the cherry on top of a chapter in my life I’ll never forget.”

Even though he’s coming off a high, Hunt ain’t sitting still. He’s apparently working on another album, although he said it’s pretty difficult to get writing done while he’s touring.

“It’s hard for me to balance those two worlds,” he said. “I’m just collecting as many ideas as I can, whether they’re mine or someone else’s and just getting ready to go back and hole up in Nashville this fall and find out what works best for the future of our music.”

But, as we’ve seen before, a rapper is stepping into the country world for a cameo — Snoop Dogg pitched Hunt some songs for his next album.

“He came on the bus and played me a few songs,” Hunt said. “I was just flattered that he was interested enough to offer those opportunities and contribute. I love that, stereotypes aside, he loves music and genres don’t matter.”

We’ll see what this history-maker comes out with next.
