On the first night of her Livin’ Like Hippies tour, Miranda Lambert threw serious shade at her ex-husband, Blake Shelton. Their feud had been quiet with each other for some time, minus a flare during the Garth Brooks lip-syncing controversy. So with this new round of exchange, some thought that Shelton might just let that bullet pass on by. But the Okie had no intention of not returning fire. And Blake Shelton did just that the day after Miranda Lambert took her shot.
Lambert took her shot during her song, “Little Red Wagon.” The lyrics are normally “Oh, you only love me for my big sunglasses / And my Tony Lamas / I live in Oklahoma.” But to throw shade at her ex, she changed the last line to “I got the hell out of Oklahoma.” Because of course, Shelton is a native Okie, while Miranda Lambert is from the Lone Star state.
So in a clever version of turnabout-is-fair-play, Blake Shelton decided to return fire.
Lone Star Strike
Shelton was one of the headliners for Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa event in Mexico. The event is a four-day mini concert held at a resort in the tropical paradise, with fans getting to enjoy a smaller and more intimate venue. Taking the stage with Luke Bryan (who was wearing one hell of a wig), the two launched into George Strait’s classic, “All My Exes Live in Texas.”
Of course, given how proud Miranda Lambert is of her Texas roots, you have to give Shelton some credit for knowing just where to land his shot.
More Feud Drama to Come?
It’s curious that this battle started at all. Why Lambert decided to take aim at Shelton in the first place is uncertain. It’s seriously doubtful anyone would have thought anything about her just singing her song as usual. And it’s also doubtful that she thought anyone would overlook the alteration.
Perhaps Shelton would have overlooked the slight, had his beloved Oklahoma not been part of the insult. Because as Blake Shelton fans know, he loves his home state (and still resides there). And Lambert knows this, too.
You can watch Shelton sing his response in the video below.
