4Despite the common misconception that Phil Robertson hates gay people, people who are homosexual have attended his church. Not just once, but many, many times.

The uproar around Phil’s comments about homosexuality in GQ caused a lot of critics to lash out against him. But Phil’s pastor at White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ, Mike Kellet, said Phil loves people who are gay.

“He knows [people who are gay],” Kellett said. “It’s not a negative thing.”

Kellet said homosexual people have gone to the church on numerous occasions. And did they run them out like most of the world would assume Phil and his church would do? Nope. In fact, just the opposite. Kellett said their message is one of love: “We love you, we’re glad you’re here.”

“People can think what they want [about Phil’s beliefs on homosexuality],” he said. “It’s a free country… I don’t hate anyone just because they believe different.”

Phil himself welcomes these gay folks with open arms. “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell,” Phil said.

“That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus — whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”

So, despite popular belief, Phil, his pastor, and their church love everyone, just as Jesus would want. Whether a person is gay, straight, a millionaire or underprivileged, White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ is a place of love.
