Robert Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly, “I know some fans online have been very upset, but that’s by design. We’re not supposed to be happy when these characters die. That just shows that you’re engaged and you’re interested.”

Things are getting complicated on The Walking Dead. With Carl Grimes on his deathbed, fans are dying to know what that means for the future of the show. Actually, the cast is also pretty curious about their fate as well.

The creator’s design has us worried but we’re hoping this a big payoff in the end. In fact, this could even mean catching up with the comic book

“Our job is to now pay that off and fulfill that interest, and prove that this was a decision worth making,” said Robert Kirkman. The creator and executive producer have also gone back and forth about Carl’s pending death during the hiatus.

Greg Nicotero added, “The people that clearly are upset about losing Carl and questioning where the show goes without Carl… I really do believe that a lot of people will put those feelings aside when they watch this episode.”

The director added, “They’re really going to get an opportunity to make peace with it…” Presumably, this means the episode will be sad, engaging, and triumphant.
